Page Numbering

I have a 145 page booklet. The 'Table of Contents' is 8
pages long. I want to number the pages in the booklet
without the numbers showing on the first 8 pages of the
booklet which is the 'Table of Contents'. I have tried
to achieve this with Headers/Footers, and also by using
the Insert Menu/Page Numbers without success. Any help
would be appreciated.
