Page Numbering

Can someone please help me? I am wanting to insert page numbers at the
bottom/center of the page. However, the page numbers will appear to the left
and to the right of the page but not in the center. I have been able to
insert page numbers at the bottom/center in other documents but not this
particular document. What have I done wrong?

You can manually insert a page number field. Place the insertion point
inside the footer, and then do this: Press Ctrl+F9 to insert field
delimiters, { }. Type PAGE within the delimiters. Press F9 to update. If
necessary, press Alt+F9 to hide field codes again. The field is inserted in
the text of the footer; to center it, you can just press Ctrl+E.
