Page numbering jumps backwards

In the footer, the document uses the {PAGE} field code. The document is
numbered okay up to "Page 25", then (for some inexplicable reason) it jumps
back to "Page 21" (and increments up from 21 "properly" thereafter.) How do
I get the document to number the page (and the succeeding ones) correctly?

Look at the document in Normal view (Draft view in Word 2007) to see if
there's a section break at the point where the numbering goes bad. Probably
there's a page-numbering restart there.

If there is one, and it isn't necessary for other reasons such as different
numbers of columns or different headers, remove it (but see
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WorkWithSections.htm for some
cautions about deleting section breaks).

If the section break is needed, you'll have to remove the page-numbering
restart. Open the header (View > Header) and click the Format Page Number
button on the Header toolbar (it shows a hand holding a page with a #
symbol). At the bottom of the dialog, click "Continue from previous section"
and click OK.
