I am typing an audit report in word, with embedded excel sheets in both
landscape and portrait pages and trying to number pages, leaving out the
first page, toc, and auditors letter and starting the page numbers at the
first excel sheet and going forward, can anyone help, have tried various ways
and it won't do what I want it to perform. PLEASE HELP!!!!

You need to insert a Section break, then in page numbering autoformat and set
the start of the pagenumbering. Does this help?

Here are some articles that may help you achieve what you want:

1. Sections. See this link on working with sections:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/WorkWithSections.htm

2. Headers/footers. See this link:
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm

3. General page numbering issues. See:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQS/Numbering/PageNumbering.htm

4. Pagination of landscape pages (optional, if you want the page number to
appear in the same place as on a portrait page). See this link:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/LandscapeSection.htm

Hope these help you get done what you are trying to do.

P.S. I work in an accounting firm and know the challenges you are facing.
