page fault stop

my computer crashed and when it came up the screen said
"page_fault_in_nonpaged_area" the stop error is 0x00000050
(0xc3780000,0x00000000,0x801B123,0x00000000) i have tried reinstalling xp
and tried repair option - nothing works. even if xp says it is starting it
goes through the motions - says it is starting windows xp then the same
screen appears. the only I know of that I did prior to this was add a pcmcia
card. i have removed that for now but still can't get anywhere. it won't
even let me boot up in safe mode! any suggestions would be appreciated!

Check your Ram memory very thoroughly.
You may need to have your RAM memory thoroughly checked out by a very good RAM tester program.
I personally prefer & use TUFF TEST PRO. Strong utility at not much money. You can even download it off the site.

MEMTEST86 is another memory test utility & is free.

I would recommend you download it from a "reliable" pc --- not this one. And do the setup and the diskette on the good system.
Only then take the diskette to the "problem" pc.

Among the possible problem areas are : an attached HP scanner, a version of Easy CD software, antivirus, remote control software (perhaps even PC Anywhere) .

The error you got says that (quoting Aumha) :

Once all memory checks out ok, see (a) if you can bring up & login to Safe mode, if not, then (b) pressing F8 at pc startup, try selecting Last Known Good.
