"Page" display has black background !

I can no longer read or edit my pages because the display I get in Page mode
gives me a page that has a black background-- like looking at a negative of a
photograph. All was well until today. Is there a hidden setting somewhere???

Have you applied a theme or background to all pages that is the same as your text?
If not check you video card vendor for latest updates
