I tried the Ascentive bandsidth test
(http://www.ascentive.com/run/click/@268459509817/products/LP/ASF30-ATF-LP023-0A00-5124.html)
and got a testing error message. The explanation is: "Your network
settings
may be inaccurately configured. Packet size may be non-optimum."

I have been having internet performance issues intermitantly lately. Any
advice on what I should do?
If you are using Ethernet, then the maximum packet size is 1492 bytes. That
is also what you should use.

I would not rely on the advice of this site as far as I can throw it.
They're trying to sell you something, so of course they find a problem.

Use the diagnostics at http://www.broadbandreports.com/tools to test your
performance, ping speeds, packet loss, etc.

But how do I set this packet size?
On my network, only the router can set the packet size. If there is a way
to set it on the XP machines, I haven't found it.
