When i use package for CD logged in as administrator on our network, and
select my network home drive on any computer on site i get an error message
'The files cannot be copied to the temporary folder because the hard disk may
be full (which it definatly isnt). Free up space on the hard disk, and then
try packaging the files for CD again. If i click options and uptick
powerpoint viewer then it copies fine.

Hi,

How much room do you have? You need about 700 meg of temp space or more.

Please tell us your PowerPoint version,
whether you are using vba,
whether your dog has fleas, or
anything else relevant.

By "uptick" do you mean add the viewer to the mix or remove it?

How large is your presentation+linked files+viewer and how is the local drive
(where your TEMP folder resides) formatted (FAT/FAT32/NTFS)?

I ran into a very similar(ly idiotic and useless) error message recently when I
was trying to copy 4gb+ files to another drive. Turns out there's a 4gb limit
in FAT32. Converting the drive to NTFS sorted that.

thanks for the suggestion!

I tick the box to remove the viewer and this works fine

ive tried it with a 1.5gb file and just with a blank presentation

the drives are all NTFS

So much for my theory. I don't have any other ideas. I've found that on every PC
I've tried it on, it stops working after I apply SP1, but it fails with a completely
different error. It grumbles about the digital certificate for the Viewer "is
invalid or has been tampered with". Wrong, unless somebody at MS did the tampering.

Interesting that it also works here if I leave the viewer out.

In any case, there's a lot of good info about the viewer and packaging here:

Thanks steve, it just doesnt make any sense! We are a Learning centre for
all schools in Halton and when groups come in from schools around the borough
to do powerpoint projects they want to package and go. Fortunatly most
schools have powerpoint on their networks.

No, it doesn't. Out of curiosity, do you have a PC with the original release of
OFfice, no service packs installed? As I recall, the whole Package For CD drill
was smooth here until I installed the first SP.

If only to gather data, it'd be worth testing on such a setup, if you have one.

Thanks again Steve, i installed a base system added to the network, no
service packs and it still did the same stupid thing!

And at this end, I tested again on a system with no Office SPs installed and it was
happy.

I suspect as a workaround you could prep for CD to a folder without the viewer then
manually copy in the files needed for the viewer (and make a few edits to them).

I make those out as:

Your presentation + linked files, which Package for CD should already have put there
for you.

Autorun.INF
[autorun]
open=pptview.exe /L "playlist.txt"

Play.BAT
@pptview.exe /L "playlist.txt"

Playlist.TXT
names of your presentation files

gdiplus.dll
intldate.dll
pptview.exe
ppvwintl.dll
pvreadme.htm
saext.dll
unicows.dll

I love that last one. Some kind of a cross between Bossy and a Unicorn?
