I have the same problem as GRIMKILLER. That is I have
about:blank as home page if I want it or not. Grimkiller
said you fixed the problem.
I could not understand what you told grimkiller to do to
fix the problem. Can you tell me how to fix in simple
terms for a beginner. I am running windows 2000 and IE6.0

"about blank" is a variant of coolwebsearch

CWShredder from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html should
remove it.

You should follow up with Ad-aware and/or Spybot. You may have
other malware installed.

The last few security updates for IE have blocked the exploit used by the
coolwebsearch parasite. Be sure to visit Windows Update.

We wish. Those updates addressed the exploits used by earlier CWS variants
but they don't seem to have any affect on these newer ones.

You guys rock!

I just spent 12 hours on my wife's computer getting rid
of only 2 days worth of crap that was downloaded when she
opened an infected email. Some sort of parasite
coolwebsearch stuff was a part of it. This one was
called www.list2004.com and I couldn't get rid of it. I
have one at work called almightysearch.com that I'm going
to remove tomorrow.

I've been trying to undate everything and take the
suggested preventative measures but it takes a while.

I just wanted to say thanks guys. Kudos to you. This is
the third time this Microsoft forum has helped me out.

A properly updated Ad-aware or Spybot should be able to deal with IGetNet
but as the above page states, you may have to edit your HOSTS file
afterwards. YMMV.
