P4T-E Qestions

Hey To All,

All in all i have been extremely satisfied with my p4t-e but i have 2 questions in mind if others have the answer or same questions feel free.

1. there is a new beta bios for download but they never have a read me as to what each revision fixes. i am currently using 1006
I am using 1006 because i remember problems out there with 1007 but now 1008 is at .003 anyone know the best or what the
newer 1008 has fixed as it was revised to the current .003?

2. I use IBM deskstar drives and every now and then i hear what sounds like a drive spins down and then back up only for
a second but it concerns me to hear it. i tried several different drives but i still hear this sound any one else?

Joe,

The last time I checked, the latest P4T-E Bios on the German FTP Site was
1008E.004.

If you are using older IBM DTLA Series Drives, I (seriously) suggest you
consider another brand such Western Digital, Maxtor, Etc. IBM DTLA Series
Drives at one time had over a 50% RMA rate plus even if you know how to
repair the the drives yourself with software, the constant maintenance can
become excessive. Also some of the DTLA Series drives do not work at all in
certain Raid configurations which is worth mentioning.

As a side note, if your P4T-E has ICS brand memory controller chips, there
is still some life left for it as you can use 133/533 CPUs if you have 1066
32 NS Rdram although you will only gain the benefit of speed and not HT as
the 850 Chipset does not support HT.
