P4PE-X/TE boot problem

Bought for my son a couple of new parts for this pc, among which a new
MoBo (ASUS P4PE-X/TE) and a new P4 processor (and a new power supply
due to the necessary square P4 power connector that the old power
supply didn't have).

Old parts out, new parts in. All cables connected to MoBo. One hard
disk is completely new, has still to be partitioned and formatted (is
primary thru cable select) second hard disk is partitioned and
formatted, but empty thru format and configured as slave on the same
IDE connector.

When everuthing was fit in again (except soundcard en network card,
because they're already on board the MoBo) I did a cold boot from with
a start up flop in the floppy drive.

Apart from the initial click when you power up, the pc does not start
to read from the flop (which does work in other pc's) in order to load
the DOS operating system.

Tried a different floppy drive: same results. Tried a different floppy
cable for connecting to the MoBo: same result.

When I searched this newsgroup for similar problems with this
P4PE-X/TE, I read that there are sometimes cold boot problems with
this and other MoBo's. Is this one of them or can there be something
else stil wrong (or am I forgetting something or doing something
stupid perhaps...?)

What type of P4 and DDR Ram did you put in?

Try it with just the 1 hard drive and poste back.
