P4P800 Soundmax problems...

Electro

I have had the P4P800 running fine for the last
couple of weeks and last night I decided to go
into the bios and switch on the onboard sound.
(I've been doing without sound while I wait for my
new Delta44 Soundcard to arrive in the post)
Anyway, I switched it on in the bios and when
I reboot, WinXP says it found a new device
and to insert the drivers. It picks up the drivers
without a worry then proceeds to install them.
Once installed I get this error....

Installation Failed "Access Denied"

I've tried auto installing them of the ASUS CD
and also manually installing them from CD to
no avail.

I've noticed that the onboard sound shares the same
IRQ as the SMbus Controller...

Anyone else struck this problem and know how to
fix it?

Cheers,

Troy.

If you received Access Denied, it could be that you did not install the drivers
using Administrative rights. The platform looks like its setup for APIC thus you
should have no problems sharing the IRQ.

Yes, It would show up in the Device Manager
as a Multimedia Controller and placed itself under the
Sound, Video and Game Controllers. It had an exclamation
mark beside it and the properties said that the drivers were
not installed even though I had installed them countless times...
During the installation process, it picks up the drivers and recognises
that its a Soundmax Audio Device then proceeds to install the drivers.
Once the installation of the drivers completes, it gives me the Access
Denied Error.

Anyway, Ive just spent the last couple of hrs formatting to
see if that helps. It installed without any hassles this time
and its also using its own IRQ.

Last week I installed a Tv Tuner card and SBlive for a day or
two then removed them. Perhaps the computer still thought
those devices were installed and taking up the Onboard
Soundcards resources. I dont know, just guessing....

Thanks,

Troy.

The error message isn't the same, but perhaps this is the same
thing as getting a "data invalid" error ? This article explains
how to fix that problem in WinXP:
