p4p800 deluxe xp errors

Freddy T

I have a P4p800 deluxe with xp pro sp1 and all the patches. bios 1015 and
ti4200 drivers 55.56.

I seem to have a lot of BSOD and I can't seem to pin down the problem. I
have tried memtest86, docmem, microsofts memory test and none have found
any memeory problems. I have checked the hard disk for errors. So far no
problems anywhere!!

The most common erro I get is
0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I just can't believe the different number of stop codes i get.

Is there a problem with my motherboard?
How can I narrow down the problem.

I have tried different video drivers, different ti4200 video card, audio
drivers, bios versions, deleted the pagefile and re-creating it, but I just
can't seem to stop getting random crashes. These crashes can occur during a
game, or moving around in file manager or even looking at a file in
notepad.

Any help woulfd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Freddy T let us participate in his woes as following:

....
Is there a problem with my motherboard?

May be. I had a P4P800 Deluxe which suddenly died during normal office
work - without any recognisable reason, without smoke or sound, taking
with it the P4 2.4C...
(Both were replaced later without arguing by the vendor;-)

I bought another P4P800 (non-Deluxe) as I needed the PC immediately
and got a "Rev.2.0" model!

How can I narrow down the problem.
....

- You might put in another P4P800.

- I would build the system from zero - beginning with a minimal
configuration of hardware, checking the compatibility of motherboard
and RAM, checking cable connections and seating of videao card;
starting with clearing the CMOS; setting BIOS values to default,
flashing BIOS to 1014 (the 1015 is being discussed in NGs), setting
BIOS values to default; formatting the hard disk, installing WinXP
SP1, installing the P4P800 board driver, installing the video card
driver etc. pp.

Good luck - Roy

There are lots of possible causes. One might be a hardware conflict. Look
control panel / system / hardware and make a note of the IRQ for each
device. If you have sound and video sharing then try moving the soundcard
to a different PCI slot. Try also changing the PnP OS setting in the BIOS.
I had problems with my Asus board which caused the system to crash when the
modem was used if the sound card was in use. Windows XP tries to maange the
hardware devices and IRQ settings but doesn't always do the best job of it
and seeing as you can no longer change IRQ settings in XP (you could in ME
and previous OS) the only way is to move the cards around.

I have had this problem with XP and a couple of Asus boards, a P3V4X and a
P4S333. The problem turned out to be I had the hard drive and a CD/DVD drive on
the primary controller. Win 98 proved no problems with this configuration.

I moved the CD to the second controller and all was well again. I haven't tried
a HD and CD on the primary controller with my P4P800D, but you never know. ;-)

I don't have any PCI cards at the moment only a ti4200 AGP. Sound is on-
board. LAN on-board. ide raid disabled, firewire disabled. I have two
harddrives on the same ide and one cdrom on the other. no sata devices.
nothing on the via ide controllers. Basically a pretty simple system with
lots and lots of BSOD, arghhh!!

Thanks for the help so far

What brand of Power supply and how big? You would be surprised what a bad PS
will do. If you had another to try just to see what happens. Unless you
already did and I missed it in your post.

Sorry I can't seem to get on-line very often. I have tried two different
power suplies 300w. With the little amout of stuff in my PC a 200W would be
more than adequate.

I may just have to try a XP repair or reinstall from scratch. I must have
changed a bios setting that XP doesn't seem to like.

Oh well!!

Thanks for your help
