P4P800 and linux?

J

Jim

Hello,

Are there contented linux users of P4P800s out there? Does hyperthreading
work as advertised under current (2.4.21) kernels? My present board is a
VP6 (smp) - it would be nice if all the applications I have compiled with
thread support would not notice the change to hyperthreading,

Any other hints and tips?

Sorry if those are obvious questions, but I don't build many machines.

Thanks

Jim

Hyperthreading is supported by SMP support in the kernel, it should make
no difference to your applications. Asus provides drivers for onboard
sound and lan, they work.

Try to use the most recent bios (1008 at the moment) and disable APM. I
had some instabilities lately but can't say what they were caused by.

Thank-you very much Wolfram, that is all very helpful.

Why do you disable APM? I disabled APCI but left APM enabled.

We are running RH 9.0 on this motherboard and so far so good. I have
had some funny things with newsgroups in Mozilla but otherwise the
performance has been good. Another problem I have run into is that the
machine doesn't turn off when doing a shutdown. I may try flashing the
BIOS but I heard of others having some issues. I want to read up on
that first.

actually when I tried to run knoppix it didn't start with APM so
I disabled it, but now that I try with my debian installation it
works with APM and APCI as well.

thanks
