P4C800E CPU Fan speed monitoring problem

Hi was wondering if anyone else has experienced any issues with ASUS probe
or other monitoring software intermittently reporting the CPU fan speed as
Zero even thought the fan is still working fine.
Close the software down and when restarted sometimes remains Zero other
starts reading normal.

Any ideas, I am using a Zalman CNPS6500B-ALCU Copper/Aluminium Heatsink &
92mm Fan

thanks in advance

Can't help, but can report something similar. Installed the same Zalman fan
and heatsink on a pbp800 -- which I've used without problems on other
computers -- and I now have very erratic fan speeds and temperatures. The
temperature reported by the mainboard and by asus probe can differ as much
as 10 degrees celsius.
But the really strange thing is that the Bios page called "Hardware Monitor"
has gotten really slow and sluggish. If I change the settings, I have to
wait for a few seconds before they happen and sometimes I have to insist by
trying again. Can a bios be only slightly corrupted? I should probably have
sent this as a separate message, but this behaviour seems to be in some way
connected with my changing the cpu fan.

Does the Zalman heatsink fan have its own temperature sensor and regulator?
If so, is the Q-fan option enabled in bios setup? If enabled, disable it.

The Zalman has an adjustable speed attachment, but I'm not using it.
With Q-Fan on it works fine and is monitored correctly. However, I have
a manually adjustable(not temp controlled) case fan that exhibits the
behavior stated. AFAIK, Q-Fan only works on the CPU fan. I also have
the BIOS slowdown in the HW monitor, but only with QF enabled.

You are not alone..

The problem would appear to be with the avtual Asus Probe app itself, I
switched to Motherboard Monitor 5 and it has never reported any of the
perculiar happenings that Asus's own app does.

Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have turned off Q-Fan and have the Zalman fan adjuster set to low as I am
after a quiet system. seems to curn along happily at 32 degrees unless
gaming.

I will see how it goes but something I forgot to mention was that I had
installed H Monitor as well which I have now removed. I will have a look at
Motherboard Monitor 5, once again thanks for the replies.

MBM and Probe both do it for me. It swings from 0 to the correct
reading to something like 33700. Probe always crashes after a few
seconds though.
