p4c800 IDE speed

Using bios 1006 (i think)

When I turn on the Enhanced IDE mode my western digital drives on the
regular IDE port come up as udma-2 not 5. In Compatability mode they
come up as udma-5. What's up with that?

Not only that_ the drive performance sucks.

My western digital serial ata shows udma 6 which is supposed to have
150m/sec capabilities. I also am not very pleased with it's speed. I
understand it is the promise chipset that is the problem. I keep expecting
a new driver from promise any day, but it has not happened yet.
I have been told by several asus posts that the pci Highpoint serial
ata card is much, much faster than the promise. Might be worth the 50.00
bucks to try it. Have you noticed that windows explorer is rather slow!!

I'm not using sata (yet) my drives are attached to the regular IDE ports. I put
one of the drives on the promise port in regular ide/parallel mode and it seems
to be on par with a udma5 drive. The one on the primary IDE is still a dog tho.
Seems odd. I guess I expected better. I'm using the ide drivers that win2K
loads_ maybe intels newer drivers do a better job.
