P4C800 Front pannel audio

Hi,
Has anyone connected up the front pannel audion header on the P4C800? What
effect does it have on the rear connections? I know there's a jumper over
some of the pins at the moment so what happens when you hook it up? Is it
possible to plug speakers in the back and then override this with headphones
in the front?

One other question - I have the following connenctions on my front pannel:-

line out:
earo-r (red)
earo-l (white)
reserved (black)

Microphone:
line out:
micout (red)
micin (white)
agmd (black)

How do these match up to the connections on the P4C800?

Thanks guys!

Yes.
The front panel jacks have a 'push to break' arrangement which means
that with nothing plugged in, the audio loops back to the motherboard
and comes out of the back as normal .... assuming you plug the loopback
leads in as directed of course......

The loopback leads? I can't find much info on this anywhere, did my front
pannel connections make any sense to you?

Your earo-r and earo-l go to the Line_out pins.
There is only one ground on the Asus header, so you
might need to use a ground pin on a USB header, for
example, if you need a second one. Sometimes the
lineout and microphone jack grounds are shorted
together inside the case, and only one of the two
grounds need to be connected. As for the micout
and micin, that is a strange terminology. The signal
from the microphone is on the "tip" of a 1/8" stereo
plug, and microphone power is on the middle contact
of the stereo plug called "ring". You have to figure
out how micin and micout correspond to those two
signals on a stereo plug.

"MIC Input Characteristics"

MICPWR -----| | 3.5mm plug <--- Ring

Your case has the bad jack, without the loopback connections
for BLINE_OUT_R and BLINE_OUT_L.
