Steven Bink

I tried to update the bios of P4C800-E Deluxe via the asus update util in
windows, after selfupdating the util it downloaded the latest bios, erased
the bios, the flashed the new rom. It hung after 20%.

After 5 minutes I shut it down. Now the PC is dead, does not boot, no
screen, no floppy LED activity.

Please help

Thanks

Bink

I had the exact thing happen to me. It hung at 20%. I had to contact ASUS
and have them send me a replacement BIOS.
.. I had them cross-ship me one (credit card hold) to speed up the process.
I learned a lesson. Don't update the BIOS in Windows.

I experienced the same problem 2 months ago. Mine hung at 45%. When I got my
board I upgraded successfully from 1010 to 1014, but when I tried it again
from 1014 to 1016 I got stuck. I took my board back to my supplier and after
a month (!) I received a brand new one. It took a while but nevertheless.
I'll never flash in windows 2K again ! I'm thinking about getting a
replacement chip from the Netherlands or the UK (can't find one in
Belgium)before I ever try it again, using a DOS diskette !!
This means that you have to get a replacement chip as GP suggested.

Good luck,

Tuur

Hi Steven,

I read this one a long time ago, I don't know if it works, but you can
give it a try I think.

I think i am in deep shit and need some serious help !
I tried to flash the bios of my P4C800-E. During the process the system
frooze at 47%.
Finaly (after i had waited for about 10 minutes) i had to shut down the
system.
Jippie!! i'm lucky to have a CrashFree Bios2 installed on my mobo ....
just take out your emergency floppy or CD; boot your system; put the
floppy or CD in
and the bios will be restored automatically..... wauw i'm lucky !

But what's this ? the system won't boot anymore.
CDrom lights flash but don't boot.
Floppy drive is completely dead.....CrashFree Bios huh

I used the latest bios version (1014) and lastest AsusUpdate.

Does anybody have any suggestion besides taking it back to the dealer
????

Someone wrote me this on a similar issue:

| I had the same problem. I have found a solution for me.
|
| 1. copy on another pc the file P4C800ED.ROM of the asus-cd on an empty
| formatted diskette
| 2. switch on the computer and you immediately push these to buttons <
| Ctrl+Home > (this is < Strg+Pos1>) for at least 4 seconds
| simultaneously now for again one. The Eprom should now find the file
| P4C800ED.ROM and feed these automatically.
| 3. turn off the PC after successful and after approx. 5 sec now.
| that 's all

This worked for me very well, after trying this procedure several
times. At its best, press Ctrl+Home several times when power up! You
should use of course an older Bios to flash. 1011 seems to be good.
