P4C800-E Deluxe 1394 connections

Hi Everyone,

I just received my P4C800-E board and I'm installing it in an Antec Sonata
case.

There are only 6 wires for the 1394 connector on the front of the case but
there are 8 pins on the motherboard.

The case wires are as follows:
TPA+/TPA-
TPB+/TPB-
Power
Ground

For a total of six wires.

I'm sure that some of the pins on the board are redundant, but with what
I've been reading here about some folks having problems with the devices
that they've hooked up to their P4C800-E boards, I don't want to take any
chances.

Are there any 1394 experts in the crowd that can make heads or tails of
this?

Thanks for your help.

If you look in your manual, I would think the TPA and TPB
pairs would be obvious. (The names in the manual just have a
zero in the signal name.) Power goes to one of the +12V pins.
Ground goes to one of the GND pins. One reason for the extra
signals, is to use them as shield wires between the TPA and
TPB pairs, if a ribbon cable is used.

You may also want to verify the wiring used in the case. For
example, on my case, the + and - names on the signals were
reversed. Here is something I posted previously:

Here is the pinout for Firewire according to an Apple Computer hardware
manual (as Apple invented Firewire, AKA IEEE1394). Page 34 gives USB
pinout, while page 37 has Firewire pinout.

Here is another picture of pinouts...

Looking into the firewire connector on the case, this is what you
should see. You want to make sure the PWR and GND pins are what they
say they are. Nothing would get fried if the TPxx signals are mixed
up with one another.

-------------------
| GND TPB+ TPA+ \
| - - - |
| - - - |
| PWR TPB- TPA- /
-------------------

Yes, I was being lazy and only put the link in for the Sonata main page which
has a note at the lower right that says to see the FAQ's

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all of your help.

I would've never known that there was an issue with the wires being
mislabeled had I not asked the question about there being more pins than
wires.
