P4C800 - Deluxe ->> build 3 machines with this.. but 2 beep.. :/

Hi all,

I've build 3 identical machines.
Same memory, same GFX card and same floppy HD and DVD-Drive.

Chieftec Dragon Midi Tower. (Nice !)
Asus PC4800 Deluxe
GFX Asus V9560 GF FX 5600 128Mb
HD Serial ATA 120 GB Hd on S-ATA connector 1. Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
Corsair TWINX DChannel paired 2x 512 (1Gb Total and BOTH in the blue slot. In
all 3 machines)
Plextor PX-116a DVD reader IDE
Sony 3.5 inch Floppy

Everything is the same, even the case.

Now here's the problem;
PC 1, functions 100%. (No problem!)

PC 2, Beeps twice during boot. (parity error)
Also when i put in memory from PC3 it beeps twice.
(Still have to test with mem from machine 1)

PC3, Beeps once. (Memory refresh timer error)
(Still have to test with mem from machine 1 and 2)

My questions:

1) What excactly is 'Memory Refresh timer error'
2) What is 'parity error'

And

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. The rest of the setup is:

My next step is to try the memory from the PC that's 100% ok in the one that
beeps once. To see if the memory is defective.

Kind regards, Eric.

my machine beeps twice -- once for each usb device connected.

Do they all use the same usb devices? keyboard & mouse?

Actually the machine that does one beep has a USB printer, the 0-beep machine
has no printer.
Oh joy!

I shall try the machine that beeps once without a printer later. (This machine)

The machine that beeps twice, it beeps 0 times when i remove all USB stuff.
Though... I had a memory test in the other machine. (Bootflop)
(The counter goes to 1024 on this (the one-beep machine) so they don't number
0-1023!)
It stopped at 1023 and hangs.
When i only put in 1 module it went to 511 and hangs
Same bank.. different module it goes to 511 also hangs.

My guess is that the motherboard is bad.

I will now take mem from THIS machine and putit in the other, just to make sure
it is not the mem.

The P4C800 family beeps early during the POST cycle each time
it detects a USB device attached to the machine. This is undocumented
but normal. You can distingush these sounds from the end of POST
error beeps because they occur early in the POST process; error beeps
sound at the very end of POST (or at the point POST is interruped
because of an error). Additionally, you should also get
some sort of error message at the same time. One BEEP at the
end of POST is normal.

If you listen closely, you will notice that the sounds during
the enumeration of USB devices is a slightly different pitch
and duration than the end of POST/error beep...On my machine
the USB beeps are more like "boops." Mine has all eight
USB ports filled (some devices don't enumerate until XP
loads drivers) and my board makes the following sounds:

"Tick-toc, Tick-Toc, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop
(pause while POST completes) BEEP."

Drives the puppy nuts, it does.

Yessir :)

But thanks to helpfullpeople in newsgroups i am mildly re-assured.

well.. waiting for a reboot of thisone without USB device.
Fingers crossed.

The fact different machines are registering different number of beeps
is likely a function of specific configuration, as long as you
see no end of post error message and the thing boots normally
I would not worry about it.

ETERNAL GRATITUDE!!!

Thank you :)

You too Roger!

Most helpfull.

Back to the lab...
