Greetings,
I'm trying to setup a p2p on two of my brother's computers.
The last time I did this was on Win95 so it's been 8 years and obviously the
process has changed dramatically from 95 to XP.
I've followed all the normal instructions but cannot see the other computer
on either PC under the workgroup that was created.
I've got the brand new Cat-6 crossover cable in place, etc, and unless it's
defective out of the box then it's got to be software/settings/configuration
related.

The first computer was connected to the net via a wireless router and I can
connect the new computer to it so both can access the web, but I've failed to
find a way for them to communicate to each other through the router(if
possible.)

With the web/router disconnected and the two connected to each other via the
crossover cable I just can't get them to see each other.
The first PC is XP-Professional, SP2
The second is XP-Media Center Ed., SP2

I'm about come to the end of my rope on this. All I want to do is help him
transfer his files from the older computer to the new one via the P2P and I
know the solution is right there in front of me but I can't see it. I've gone
through MS's knowledge base and other online resources but it's like walking
a maze with no hands and no eyes.

If anyone might know of some compatibility issues or something I'm missing
in the protocol setups, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!!

Without knowing what steps you've followed, it's hard to say what's
wrong. The most likely problem is that a firewall program (Norton,
McAfee, ZoneAlarm, PC-cillin, Windows Firewall, etc) on one or both
computers is blocking access between them. Configure any firewall to
allow file sharing on the local area network.

I'd connect both computers to the router, then run the Network Setup
Wizard on them and tell the Wizard that they connect to the Internet
through a residential gateway (router).
