P2B-L - Pentium 3 support question

S

SV

The info on the Asus site shows that the P2B-L supports the P2-450 MHz and
P3-500 MHz (slot1) (ALL PCB and ALL BIOS) but nothing in between. It also
shows that the P2B-LS supports the *P3*-450 MHz (ALL PCB and ALL BIOS).

Is it probable/possible that the omission of the P3-450 for the P2B-L is
accidental and that it is supported?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It'll be supported... it might not call it the right thing, but it'll work.

I suggest you update to the latest BIOS, that'll probably fix the display
issue during POST.

Hmm, looking at it, there were only two BIOS, 1011 and 1012, there's a 1014
something beta dated 2002/08/05 - you'd have to check support goups or old
posts here if it's worth getting.

1010 had the last of the microcode updates for PIII 600, 550 and 350. So it
seems the whole line would be supporrted.

With the 1014beta3 BIOS, you can upgrade your P2B-L all the way to a
Tualatin Celeron 1.4Ghz processor.

If the board is revision 1.03 or older, you would need a Powerleap iP3/T
adapter as the onboard regulator is unable to supply CPU voltages below
1.8v.

If the board is revision 1.04, you could use the cheaper Slot-T adapter
as the onboard regulator is more capable.

You can also use the Slot-T adapter to run any Socket 370 Coppermine
processor (up to 1.1Ghz) on any revision P2B-L.

Roland's P2B processor upgrade FAQ is more detailed than the Asus site:
