Oxpsp1.exe is not a valid Win32 App

I downloaded two setup applications yesterday, without incident. I went to
run them to actually setup XP Service Pack 1 and Media Player 10, but I get
the following error whenever I double click on the icons: "...is not a valid
Win32 application."

Any ideas what is preventing the setup of these two items?

What version /service pack level is your current XP?
Where did you get these 2 applications? and what are they / do they do?

Just in case you are referring to MS Office service pack, then make that crystal clear.

Possibilities:
1. Some virus infected your system. Run a virus check.
2. Your program got corrupted and the "exe" cannot be run. Re-download ..

The .exe applications were downloaded from the Microsoft website in order to
install Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Windows Media Player 10. My current
level is XP without any service packs.

You should consider getting Windows XP service pack 2, and skip SP1. SP2 supercedes and replaces sp1.

As to oxpsp1, that's for MS Office XP, not for Windows XP. Do not confuse the 2.
