Overwriting Field Codes

Hi! I have a document template with a number of standard doc property field
in, eg, SUBJECT, so that I can “copy†information to several places within
the document. My colleagues keep trying to change them by editing them in
the document (rather than amending the property) and then complain when their
changes are ignored. Or rejected.
Is there a way I can make these fields non-editable or throw up a message
saying “please edit the property in File, properties, etc†when they try to
overwrite the field?
Or should I shoot my colleagues?

I've never found a good way to handle this. You could have an AutoNew macro
call a userform which gathers the information for the document properties,
updates the properties and updates the fields.

Thanks for the response, Charles.
I had a feeling that Macros would be the solution but they are not liked
within our organisiation. Is there a way to format the text so that it is
formatted on the screen one way, say red strike through, but prints normal
black?
Perhaps "education" is the only way forward.

"Education" is probably what is needed - Every complaint should give rise to
an opportunity for it.

What you could do is set the shading of Field Codes to Always under
Tools>Options>View

Thanks Doug. This may work but will the option carry with the document to
other PCs? In other words, if I set it on my PC, when I open it on another
PC, will I have to set the option again?
