Overstrike characters

I need to insert an x with a macron(bar) over the top of
it into my sheet. Other users also want to do that, but I
don't know a way to do it in Excel. I did write and
distribute a macro that will insert a graphic, but I
prefer an actual character or combination for simplicity.

Thanks, Jason, but we're using Office 2003 and the Insert
Symbol is in Excel now. The problem is there is no way to
overstrike a character which essentially creates a new
variation. The x with a macron is the symbol for
the "average of a range" of values used in statistics. I
know it's available in a new font set we could buy, but I
don't think it's worth it for a half dozen characters.

Thanks, for the web page reference. It was a shot in the
right direction at least. :-)
