OverClocking with Asus A7N8X-DX and Athlon XP 2500+ Barton

I have a question about overclocking these two components. Currently,
I have the Aggressive settings for my RAM. I have a FSB of about 166
set now and a multiplier of 12.5 , which I believe is not locked. The
CPU is recognized as a 2800+ under Windows XP and my BIOS. I have
heard I can overclock the FSB to 200 and get speed about as close as a
Athlon XP 3200+, but when I do I my PC will not POST. I have set the
voltage on the CPU to 1.85 (the max my mobo offers). Anyone have any
ideas how I can squeeze more performance from my CPU? Any help would
be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

P.S. - I am using a watercooling kit so heat won't be a serious
problem. Right now it's at about 20 C currently (moderate workload)

What speed memory do you have?

What is the rev # of your motherboard? Revisions below 2.0 will often
have problems running at higher FSB settings. The problem can be
related to the voltage to the southbridge chipset and not the CPU
voltage. If you have a lower rev board read the info at this link:
http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9237

I have both a rev 1.04 and a 2.0 and only the 2.0 will run my 2500+ at
a 200 FSB. I use a multiplier of 10.5 at standard CPU voltage for a
"3000+" rating. The 1.04 will top out well below 200 using the same
CPU and memory. If you have a rev 2.0 then you should try starting
with a lower multiplier and work up. It is possible that the CPU or
the memory isn't up to the task. Memory voltages can also be raised.
Check the rest of the formum in the link above for detailed
discussions on all these points. Good luck.

I would recomend making sure you have PC3200 ram...Rev 2.0
Motherboard....And set the Multiplier down from 12.5

11x166 is default for the 2500+
to get 3200+ rating 11x200.
Give it a shot if all the parts are correct.

What everyone else said. And, make sure you lock the memory at 100%.
Not by SPD, not Auto. Otherwise it might just run way fast and you
won't boot. Also lock the AGP at 66. You might need to raise the DDR
voltage from 2.6 to 2.7 or 2.8.

I have pc 3200 RAM and my mobo revision is 2.0... I'll try lowering
the multiplier and if it works... Thanx a bunch!
