Whoa!!! That's way over my head. I just want to know an easy way to delete
Weatherbug.
BTW I deleted the music files using Unlocker and so far they are gone,
Thanks!

Sorry!!

The point was, there is *some* method to remove Weatherbug.
And "a hammer", is not the method :)

Just type the name into Google and see. You're bound to
find something. Here are some search terms for you,
based on me doing a preliminary search...

weatherbug remove.exe

If an AV company has a remover, it might be very easy.
If the method involved getting a copy of the latest
Weatherbug, and relying on a real installer/uninstaller
being present, it may be able to "clean up" the old
version. It removed the old version for you, and then
the new version uninstalls cleanly via Add/Remove control
panel.

*Don't* just slap on the hip waders, and start deleting
stuff. Weatherbug is nuisance-ware, so it's bound to have
a few deep hooks buried in there somewhere.

*******

Example:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/uninstall/1499/WeatherBug.html

"Uninstallation Command:

C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\REMOVE.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\INSTALL.LOG
"

First, look for an AWS folder in your Programs folder. There should be
a WEATHERBUG folder in there. The bleepingcomputer web page is saying there
will be at least two files in there

REMOVE.EXE
INSTALL.LOG

Sitting in your MSDOS command prompt window, with the change directory
thing pointed to the WEATHERBUG folder, you'd do

REMOVE.EXE INSTALL.LOG

or something similar. You'd first start, by verifying that those
files really exist. Next, using a text editor like Notepad,
you'd open "INSTALL.LOG" for a look. It should have a list of
files and/or registry entries to be removed.

Versions of software can change, and it is always possible a
later version uses a different method.

*******

A more complete list of it's "hooks". This is Weatherbug
bundled with MyWebSearch.

Thanks, I got weatherbug deleted but it's still in add/remove programs. How
do I get it out of there?

I just tried downloading the installer and got an MSI file.
Unpacking the MSI I found that it seems to be pretty
clean, at least at install. There were just files going to
the Program Files\AWS folder, and Registry entries under
HKCU\Software\AWS.
Aside from that there's an uninstall key and a Run key
to run the program at startup.

To clean up, delete the AWS folder and then run Regedit.

Delete the HKCU\Software\AWS\ key.

Delete this key if you find it:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Weather\

Also look here:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\

That key determines what shows in Add/Remove. MSI-installed
software has a subkey with a GUID name: {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx ...etc.
Other software uses a named subkey, like "Mozilla Firefox". So to
remove the right key, look at each GUID-named key and check
the value for "DisplayName". When you find Weatherbug delete
that GUID key.

Deleting it that way, without going through Windows Installer
(which handles MSIs) you may leave behind a partial version of
the original MSI file somewhere, but that's harmless.

Click on it to remove it. It should tell you that it can't and then

I tried that, it doesn't work!

Just leave it. It's not hurting anything (assuming you really DID
uninstall the program - your messages aren't very clear to me and I
don't see anywhere where you describe what you did to remove it.)

I used a thing called add/remove programs cleaner and it removed it mostly.
I guess I'll just leave it.
I can't reinstall it, it says the installation thing is unavailable.
What are some good alternatives to weatherbug?

I used Revo Uninstaller to remove it and so far it's gone!

I told you how to uninstall it. You might do well
to learn about the Windows Registry rather than
downloading a pile of utilities every time you need
to fix something.

(If you Google: msi network resource unavailable

you'll see that the problem you had is not uncommon
with Windows Installer.)

I was kind of afraid to mess with the registry. Besides that, I couldn't
find Weatherbug in the registry under Uninstall.

Since it installs via .msi file it would be under a
GUID (Globally Unique IDentifier, which is basically
a 16-byte number displayed in hexadecimal format).
I'm not sure, but from looking at the MSI content it
looks like the key may be named like so:

{297DCADA-86A1-4A42-8A13-66B7D7A09FD2}

In any case, under the Uninstall key you should find
a number of those GUID names at the top. Those
are the programs that installed via MSI. If you select
each key in turn the values make it clear which program
the key represents. Removing the GUID key is relatively
harmless. It will only result in two things: The entry
will disappear from Add/Remove and Windows will not
know how to uninstall Weatherbug. :)

When programs install via MSI they also sometimes
leave something in the hidden folder C:\WINDOWS\Installer\.
I'm not sure, but I think that's the installer database
(sans files) for use with uninstalls/updates. But it's
probably not worth the trouble to purge that folder of
Weatherbug. MS is GUID-crazed. It can get very complicated
to figure things out when everything gets renamed with
a GUID code, and a little Weatherbug debris shouldn't
harm anything.

Thanks but I already had Revo Uninstaller installed and it did a good job of
uninstalling Weatherbug. Now if I wanted to I'm pretty sure I could
reinstall Weatherbug. But thanks for your help.
