Outlook2007 won't show bolded dates, upcoming appointments or holi

I have tried every setting but can't get Outlook to show bold dates on the
To-Do Bar or any upcoming appointments. I have already askd about this and
got a useless answer.
Now I discover that even after I ask twice for holidays to be shown in the
calendar, none appear--unless the Fourth of July is no longer a holiday in
the USA.
Did MS forget to port these features over from Outlook 2003?

1. what useless answer did you try already?
2. do you have the updated holidays list? See
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/missinghol.htm for links to the new lists.

In answer to question about useless info, see "to do bar not showing appointments" thread started by Tonto 1/24/2008 to which I added my bit in May.
More importantly, the MS page you referred me to applies to Outlook versions
before 2007. Even though the hol file in 2003 was updated, the Outlook.hol in
my Offcie12 folder is dated 9/12/2006! Will the one you referred to also work
in 2007? I won't it myself unless I get the MS okay.
I have all other updates and patches, per Automatic Update and manual
supplementary downloads. The bottom line is, I have done everything,
including reinstalling Office 2007 Enterprise. Still, Appointments and
Holidays do not appear in the Calendar. In fact, Holidays don't even appear
in the daily schedule pages.
I have even rolled back Windows XP to SP2.

Did you...

- Select TOOLS from the Outlook Menu
- Select OPTIONS
- Click the CALENDAR OPTIONS... button
- Click the ADD HOLIDAYS... button
- Select UNITED STATES
- Click OK button
- Click OK button again to close Calendar Options
- Click OK button again to close the Options window.

To install the Holidays to your Calendar?

Yes it will work with 2007... use the extracted HOL file at the end of the
page though - download, double click and add the ones you need. Its odd that
office didn't install the updated one that is included with 2007. Did you
Add holidays again? You do need to Add them - outlook doesn't pick them up
on its own.

Sorry it took so long to get back. I never got the e-mail notice you'd written.
Anyway, specifically which file do you mean--the pst file for the Jewish
holidays at the end of the Outlook-Tips page or the Outlook2012.hol? I did
the latter, renamed the original hol file and this became Outlook.hol.
Outlook still insists my holidays are already there. I installed them anyway.
I watched each holiday added. BUT, there's nothing in the calendar to
indicate any holidays. This is getting tiresome.
If I have to uninstall/reinstall Office to get the damn thing to work, I'll
do it. I just don't want to lose personal data and settings.
I still haven't gotten the earlier problems fixed either--regarding getting
the calendar to show bolded dates or pending events.
Office Enterprise is supposed to be a finished product, not still in beta,
yes?

Try the following:

Open Outlook and select your calendar:
- Select the VIEW menu
- Select ARRANGE BY
- Select CURRENT VIEW
- Select DEFINE VIEWS
In the Custom View Organizer window:
- Select DAY/WEEK/MONTH
- Click the RESET button
- Click OK when the window asks "Are you sure you
want to reset the view "Messages" to its original settings?"
- Click the APPLY VIEW button
- Click the CLOSE button

This should reset your Calendar to the original settings. You may be
looking at your calendar with some kind of filter on it.

Nikki--

Tried it--several times. No luck. It still refuses to show the holidays in
any configuration. I don't have any filters in use. I ran the built-in Office
Diagnostic but it came up showing no problems at all. I have noticed that
Outlook is more troublesome than any other Office app. They work perfectly.
Outlook freezes up and spins its wheels at least once a day. BTW, I am using
the very latest patches on all my applications and drivers.
I would hate to have to revert to Office 2003 to get Outlook to work.

Thanks again.

The only other thing I can think of is that you are not looking at your
SYSTEM calendar folder.

Outlook uses what is called System or Default Folders.
The Calendar folder that is firing the automated stuff is your
designated "Default or System Folder" for the Calendar.

I'm thinking that you have perhaps, a different calendar that is
the designated system folder (like in a pst or something).

To check the "Delivery Location" in OL2003:
Open the TOOLS menu
Select E-MAIL ACCOUNTS
Select VIEW OR CHANGE EXISTING E-MAIL ACCOUNTS
then click NEXT
Near the bottom of this window will be a small text box with the title:
"Deliver new e-mail to the following location"

It is probably close to the same in 2007, but I don't have access
to it at the moment.
