outlook2003: messages incorrectly marked as 'replied'

using outlook 2003:

I have noticed that if I cancel a message that I have selected to reply
to or forward...the message is incorrectly marked as 'you replied
on...'. this is especially frustrating when I have outlook 'find
related messages'...only to realize that I never actually
responded...even though outlook happily reports that I have.

is this a bug? scratch that...is this a DOCUMENTED bug...that will
hopefully be fixed? :^)

Yes, this is a known limitation in all versions. I don't expect a fix. A
workaround may be to turn off automatic saving of email messages, since I
think that's related -- the forward/reply stamp is affixed only when the
forwarded or reply message is saved or sent.
