I am using office xp professional with a hotmail account. I am unable to
receive emial in outlook but I can send email. I would like to be able to
use outlook more exclusively for business purposes. I have tried several
fixes without success (outlook connector) to get my current version of
outlook to work completely. Should I upgrade to a newer version of outlook
so that outlook and the hotmail account will integrate? Will a newer version
of outlook integrate with my office xp?
Thanks.

Hotmail has changed things so that you must use the Hotmail Connector to
access your account from within Outlook and the Connnector works only with
Outlook 2003/2007

A newer Outlook will not integrate with an older Office. The versions must
all match for integration to work.

Can you advise me as to what my options are?

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to use Outlook with Hotmail,
then you'll need Outlook 2003 or 2007 and if you want Outlook to integrate
with the rest of Office, you'll need a complete Office 2003 or 2007 suite
(and not the 2007 Home and Student edition as that doesn't include Outlook).

If you simply want to use Outlook for business purposes and your business
doesn't have a mail server of its own, use your existing Office suite with,
for example, Gmail instead of Hotmail. Your options should be determined by
your business or personal needs.
