Outlook XP + Exchange 2007

Hi!

A customer of mine has the following problem. Some mails arrive with the
message body as an attachment instead of the way they should be shown. He
also says that if he sends a mail with an attachment out of outlook, it (the
attachment) can not be opened. If he sends the same attachment using "send
to" out of office (say word) the attachment can be opened.

Has anybody ever encountered these problems before? Are they a Outlook
problem or might Exchange be the culprit? Any input is welcome!

who is he sending the messages to? another outlook user on the same server,
outlook outside of your network, non-outlook user, etc?

what message format does he use?

The message is being sent to an account outside of the organization. As far
as the message format goes, I'm not really sure but my guess is that he is
using outlook standard which would be RTF.

It may be related to using RTF formatting - that wraps the attachment in a
winmail.dat and only outlook can open it. Sometimes mail servers will
corrupt it so even outlook can't open it.

Try setting Outlook to use either plain text or HTML or have him change the
message format with the attachment to plain text or html before sending.
