Outlook won't start.....

Have a customer PC who runs Outlook 98 on a Windows 98
PC. For a few days now, whenever he trys to open Outlook,
the message outllib.dll has performed an invalid page
fault at 0177:6e46ecf3. I've tried re-installing, and no
help. I removed and re-installed outlook express, but no
help there either. I have not completely removed outlook,
as I am not sure whether or not the address book or inbox
and other folders would be removed when I do that, as they
desperately need to be saved. Any ideas? Any and all
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, before you do anything else, I would recommend
backing up your hard drive. If you are on an Exchange
Server, then you don't have to worry about losing
anything. If you're using POP, IMAP or HTTP or deliver
to a PST then you'll need to backup any ".pst" or ".ost"
file. (To find them, do a search on your system, but
make SURE that hidden files are shown. To show hidden
files you can use this as reference:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/tips/personal
ize/hiddenfiles.asp)

Once you have sufficiently backed up your system as
mentionned above, uninstall and reinstall Outlook.
Another thing you might want to try after backing up your
data is to recreate your profile. You can do this by
going in the Mail applet in the control panel.

Good luck!

I'll give that a shot and see what happens. Do you know
where the address book is saved to in Outlook? I'll need
to back that up as well. Thanks for the information!

In Outlook 98 contacts can be stored in the Contacts folder which is in the
pst-file or in a personal address book which is pab-file.
