Outlook won't shut down

No matter how many times I tell Outlook to quit (end
program), it keeps posting the "not responding" window.
I'm using Outlook 2002 on Windows XP Professional. The
problem first appeared when the computer was new, but it
only took one "end now" instruction to close it. Now, the
program won't shut down at all, which prevents me from
closing down the computer, and interferes with the APC
power-outage auto-shutdown.

The only way I got it to quit was to go to the Task
Manager and manually shut down each Outlook process --
many of which were still running, even after I had
repeatedly tried to shut down the program. No other
applications were running at the time.

Any ideas, anyone? I mean, besides switching to Eudora?

Thanks!

Are there any virusscanner/firewalls installed on your computer? Try
disabling them (or at least the Outlook/Office integration) and see if that
solves your problem.
