Outlook won't save password

Hello,

I found this topic in previous posts, but none of the suggestions helped,
not even the knowledge base article that was posted. I wonder if anyone has
any new information.

I have Windows XP - Media Center Edition - and Outlook 2003. Just recently,
Outlook started asking for my password each time it checked for mail or sent
mail. I have the box checked to save the password. I followed the knowledge
base article and deleted the specified registry key, I created a new profile
etc. I also deinstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled it. The same problem
keeps turning up.

I'd be grateful for any new insight or suggestions.

I have this exact same issue and tried all the steps Microsoft
outlined. I, too, need help with this.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I have the same problem and have not
found a solution anywhere incluing Microsoft. Why don't they reply to these
problems? Anyone please help!?

What version of Outlook? What version of WIndows? What type of account?
When yuo ask a question, don't be vague. Specify as many details of the
problem as possible, including how to produce it and exactly what happens
when you do.

Thank you very much for replying.

Details:
1) Outlook 2003
2) XP (updated as much as possible... I believe)
3) Browser (if relevant) IE7

Problem:
Outlook will not save my password. For going on vacation I have transfered
the Outlook "pst" file from my desktop to my laptop. However, when I try to
add in the email accounts, Outlook does not remember the password. There is
no error message but instead everytime I try to check email it asks for the
password. With multiple email addresses this is not practicle. I will check
the "remember password" everytime and it will check the email successfully
but the password does not stay in Outlook and the box is unchecked next time.
I have tried deleting the registry key. I have tried creating a new profile
and ignoring the "pst" file from the other computer and still no change. I
have tried loading Outlook through the run command "outlook /safe" with no
luck. I did try the steps Microsoft suggests but I still have the same
problem. I have read many posts on the web with a similar problem but I have
not read a solution yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Brian,

Yes I tried everything in the link you posted. I am sorry, but I should
have referenced the link instead of partially summarizing it in my post.
I tried:

Method 1: Create a new Outlook profile
Method 2: Start Outlook in safe mode
Method 3: Back up your registry and remove the user account information from
the Protected Storage System Provider subkey. Then, reenter your password
options.

as the website suggests to do so. This is why I am frusterated. I don't
know what else to do.

Any other ideas?

Not from me, unfortunately.

The problem will be fixed(at least it was for me) after following the
instructions at http://windowsxp.mvps.org/usershellfolders.htm

Resetting the shell keys in the registry using the supplied reg file,
then I deleted the key in the Protected System Storage key (not sure
if u have to do this), then rebooted, then reentered outlook password
and WHALLA no more issues.
