Outlook will not retain large icons or full menus

When I go to Tools>Customize and check "large icons" and "always show full
menus" that setting is not retained when the computer is shut down. Does
anyone know how to fix this?

When you shut down the computer is Outlook being closed properly? Does the
outlook.exe process stop?

I have the same problem with outlook 2003. Even the toolbar customization is
not retained? Anyone know how to fix?

Chris,

Not sure what version of Outlook you are using. There could be a lot of
things going on. First make sure the computer is defragged and running well.
Then close out everything on your computer all the icon running in the
system tray then try setting the option in outlook at and see if works
better. You can also try to set the setting in safe mode but sometimes the
dialogs are harder to use in safe mode. Good Luck.

Wow! You guys are good. You didn't get my problem resolved, but the answers
and questions came back in barely minutes.

I am using Outlook 2003 with all Microsoft updates. I have a brand new
computer that isn't even junked up with anything. In installed Office 2002
and then Outlook 2003. During the installation, it uninstalled Outlook 2002.
As far as I know, it is shutting down correctly. No hangups occur on shutdown.

Anything?

Same here. I upgraded from 2002 to 2003 on 4 different computers and am
having the same problem on all 4. Again, even if I just move a toolbar.
When I get out of Outlook and then get back in the toolbars are back where
they were originally. Seems that none of the moves/customization that I do
will "stick".

Are these default Outlook toolbars? Do a hard reset on the toolbar by
renaming outcmd.dat to .old

I already did that with no difference.

I did the same on my prior computer, and had no difficulty.

Which Toolbars are they? Are they from Outlook?
Note that third party toolbars from add-ins are being controlled by the
add-in and not Outlook. If these toolbars lose their customization and
location between Outlook session you'll have to contact support for that
add-in.

After playing with it more, it appears that it has to do with other toolbars
like Adobe PDF or the Symantec SPAM toolbar. If you move these around, they
don't stay where you put them. Even if you just move one of the Outlook
"standard" or "advanced" toolbars if it impacts the placement of the PDF
toolbar or SPAM toolbar, you will loose it's placement.

Summary, any movement that impacts a 3rd party toolbar will be lost. Or
moving a 3rd party toolbar will also be lost.

That depends on the add-in. For instance my SnagIt add-in does keep its
location as the add-in is programmed to remember it.

I'm back and have read your replies. My problem is not moving toolbars. I
would like my icons to stay selected "large icons" and my menus to stay
"always show full menus." Both of these settings change when the computer
cycles on/off. I only have Spamkiller from McAfee as an add-in.
