i wanted to understand why i was ask (screen message) to update to Outlook
and it replaced Outlook express. Is Outlook something MS promoted and is
supposedly better than express ? Can i choose to go back to express and not
suffer any negative software behavior ? Is Outlook free with my existing
license or somewhere out in time MS will charge me for Outlook ?

Thanks for the answers, much appreciated, very helpful. The license i am
referring to is the one i see when i go to "help" - about MS Office.

If you've got a license for Office it should include a license for Outlook.

Outlook doesn't replace Outlook Express. You can have both on the same
computer (in fact, you MUST have both on the same computer if you want
Outlook to work) and they will work independently of each other. What I
think you're referencing is that there can be only one DEFAULT mail client:
the one shown in the "E-mail" drop-down in Internet Explorer's
Tools>Internet Options>Programs dialogue.

It's not better if all you need is e-mail. It is beyond a doubt better if
you have need of calendaring and task management, because Outlook Express
doesn't have those functions.

Certainly.

If by your "existing license" you mean a license for Microsoft Office, then
yes. Outlook is included in Office.

Brian, thanks for the concise answers. Better than near any help desk
experiences i have had.
