outlook using word as email editor

When I click reply or forward, etc. I get an hourglass pointer that just
never ends. Similarly, when I click new, I get the little box that says
Starting word as your email editor. That's it, and it just stays like that.

A new button appears on the task bar simply labeled Microsoft Outlook. A
similar listing appears in the task manager under applications. It says
running. There is nothing happening in the performance monitor. There is
tons of memory and hard drive space. I have to end task it. Outlook itself
also closes.

When I start word on its own, it works fine. Any ideas? Outlook 2002 & Win2K

Well...my first suggestion would be to not use Word as the e-mail editor. :)
Tools | Options | Mail Format...

See if that resolves the problem.

That does indeed solve the problem, and I had already done that. But I'd
rather not work that way, sionce I've been doing it the other way for years.
Thanks.
