Outlook suddenly changes from Internet Mail to Corporate Workgroup

Outlook suddenly changes from Internet Mail to Corporate Workgroup.
In order to change back we have to go to tools, services, configure mail and
change it to Internet Mail. We then log in with Admin rights and have to
re-install Outlook.
Any clue to why this is happening? Is there a recent Microsoft Update that
would be changing these settings?
We also have one pc that we converted back to Internet Mail that has
messages in the outbox that we cannot send, delete, move or open. The error
message is that the mail is already being transmitted by the MAPI service.

We have approx. 60 pc's running Windows 2000 Pro and Office 2000 pro. In the
last several days 5 machines have experienced this issue.

Why change it back? Corporate or Workgroup mode can handle Internet
accounts just fine.

I'd be very surprised. There hasn't been an update to OL 2000 for quite
some time and updates are never automatic.

Yeah, I have spoken to several colleagues and they say the same thing, hard
to believe. But it is happening and I haven't been able to find a common
thread. The reason I want to change it back is that users can receive mail,
but can't send.

Changing it back won't necessarily repair the problem and the problem should
be repairable without changing it back. When you say "can't send", what
happens when they try? If they're using POP accounts and can receive, then
obviously "Internet Mail" is working. We just need to find out what's
interfering with the sending.

When users try to send email the message stays in the outbox and they get an
email from the "Administrator" that the mail was undeliverable. They can
still receive their mail with no problems.

I'm sure you did the obvious and ran virs scans.
This is the first I have heard of this issue.

What is the exact text of that message (masking any real addresses in it, of
course)?

Sorry, I don't have the exact message. After trying to send it appears as if
the email is sent, but then the user gets a reply email from System
Administrator saying that the message was undeliverable.

The next time it happens, post the message.
