Outlook says 'trying to connect'.... what's changed ?

Yesterday I was connected fine to my Outlook server (a company server) from
my office (using VPN and a ADSL modem). Then I had to restart the computer as
I had an problem using the 'serach' function and the computer kinda froze.

When I opened Outllook it was 'trying to connect' with no joy.

When I got home I tried from my home broadband - using the same supplier and
a similar modem I connected without problem.

Back in the office today, same thing happens. 'Trying to connect' and the
following error message:

Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004011D) : 'The server
is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists.'

I have contacted the administrator, but with no joy.....

Can anyone help me identify the error mesaage?

This usually means that the Exchange Server you are trying to contact is
not available. This can be a problem with the path, the connection, or
the server itself.

- can you ping the server (ping 'server name' from command prompt)
- can you "see" the server (\\'server name' in the address bar of
Windows Explorer)
