Steve,
Yes, this is new in O2K3. I've found that it causes several problems and
only use it if the client has specific needs which require it's use, which is
rare in our environment.

I also have the same problem. I'm running about 20 rules. Some of them seem
to work, but most I have to run manually for them to process.

Here's another issue I have, one of my rules says to move anything with the
word "Globalpoint" to the trash. It's never worked, even when I try and run
it manually. I thought maybe it was a capitalization issue. This isn't the
case because in all my emails from Globalpoint, it's spelled exactly
"Globalpoint," the same as it's defined in the rule. Oh well.

As it's clear that some of us receive a lot of email, it's really very
unfortunate.

By the way, I'm running a brand new install of Office XP with SP3.
(installed a week ago) I've got a Pentium IV 3.2Ghz processor with a gig of
Kingston RAM, an Intel motherboard, an ATI video card, and a Seagate SATA
harddrive.

Amazing. This thread has lived for 15 months and nobody appears to know what
to do. I have been experiencing the same problem - that rules do not run
automatically as promised by the check boxes. Manual run is OK. Mr.
Walker's suggestion seemed promising - but there is no such option (cached
exchange mode) in Outlook 2002 SP3. Does anybody have a suggestion (besides
picketing MS)?

I have searched far and wide to find a solution to this. It seems none exists.
Does not MS monitor and respond to this forum. Obviously this issue has
existed for sometime, across many different versions of Outlook, Windows etc.
Someone at MS needs to wake up and either resolve this issue or at least
explain the problem. This is very frustrating. I receive 100s of emails a day
and cannot depend on this feature to "sort" the emails properly.
WAKE UP MS...HELP US OUT HERE!!!!!

Is there a way to get this problem to them without paying for their
ridiculous service fees?

When your car breaks and you pay a mechanic to fix it, do you consider his
fees ridiculous?

You can always write to outwish at microsoft dot com.

Sorry if I stepped on toes. Not to belabor the point but if my car does not
function correctly "out of the box" then I expect the manufacturer to repair
it at their cost, not mine.
Obviously this has been an ongoing issue and MS has not addressed it.

Just my opinion.

So this discussion machine is like a catholic confessional.
You get to talk about your woes and it feels better but
you never know if the "big guy" is listening.

That's because this is not an official support channel. It's a peer-to-peer
communicaton channel.

Not sure if this has been fixed but assume not. I am also having problems
with rules. I have 16 rules and although most of them work, two recent
additions will only work if the Use Exchange Cached mode is disabled. This is
a right pain as I am mobile and need my email box syncronised when on the
move.

Could there be any other work around for this? Is it definitely the above
setting?

I am running Outlook 2003 on XP SP1

Not sure if anyone else has seen this but found this article on the MS website:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;892240

It may one or two of you out as if you have client only rules, the ones
below will not work so move your server rules above these....or delete the
client rules. I have updated my outlook to put all my client rules at the
bottom and will see if it resolves the issues.

Ok I am officially miffed off with Outlook 2003 email rules. It is not as if
it is a complicated impilmentation. One exchange server.....thats it. I have
removed all my client side rules I have correctly prioritised them and tried
with and without cached folders......still they don't work.

Just hope MS fix this soon..........or perhaps they just won't bother.

I noticed this post was all the way on the bottom of the discussion. Has the
problem been fixed, or is everyone just ignoring it?
I'm running Windows XP with the all the latest patches and Outlook 2003.
What's going on with this?

I find that by right-clicking on the actual email, then selecting
'Create Rule' and creating my rules from there works better for me.
I've had a lot of issues with creating rules from 'Tools--Rules and
Alerts' in the menu bar. I'm using Outlook 2003 SP1. Hope this helps.
