Outlook remains in task manager after closing

Outlook has been acting goofey. It gets stuck on send and receive and sits
there until I cancel the send close Outlook and reboot. When that does not
work I check the task manager after Outlook is closed and find it still
running.
Updates are current and I have scanned for viruses all is well. I am
running Vista on a HP Pavilion with 2007 Office and the business contact
manager.

Any ideas, suggestions other people with this issue?

Generally caused by outlook addins (see Outlook Trust Centre) and or AV
intergrated with outlook
