Outlook pst personal folders information service

I formatted my hard drive and when trying to use/import my outlook.pst file,
I get a message "The file...\..\...\outlook.pst is not compatible with this
version of the Personal Folders information service. Contact your
administrator" (me). I am using Outlook 2000 (both before and now) and I've
done this before with previous restarts with no problems. I tried fixing the
outlook.pst file with scanpst.exe (as recommended by Jocelyn Fiorello), and
it allowed me to open it, but it seems now to be empty even though it is
still 5MB. Now what? I still have the original outlook.pst file on a DVD+R.

Hi Jim,
try this.
Copy the PST file onto your computer. Enable the write protection!!!! (right
click > properties)
After that open Outlook FILE > OPEN > DATAFILE > and point to your pst file!

If you have copied the PST to your hard drive and removed the read-only
attribute, you should be able to open it with FIle>Open>Personal Folders
File. If you still receive the error, it's a good sign that the PST was
damaged when you copied it to the DVD, with a likely reason being you copied
it to the DVD while Outlook was open. If that's not the case, I've seen
similar reports that seem to indicate some burning programs don't handle
PSTs well. In either of these two situations, your PST is toast, unless a
commercial tool can repair it.

Thanks. I've tried that. I even tried opening an older .pst that was openable
before and I get the same message. Is it possible there's something wrong
with Outlook when I reloaded Office? I will try running the disk to fix any
problems. All three other Outlook .pst files opened fine for my other family
members/accounts.

That's a conundrum, then, and I don't have any good suggestions at this
time. Perhaps another person will come to your rescue. Sorry.

I am wondering if you have solved your problem - I am having a similar
problem and have lost so much information!! I would appreciate any input you
may have. Thanks.

Thanks for your help. I reloaded Office but that didn't help. A consolation:
I was able to import a .pst of my contacts that I made previously.

No I haven't. It is a strange problem that I was able to import my wife's and
kids' .pst files, but not mine. I was able to import my contacts from a
previously saved .pst file. I'll let you know if I figure it out and would
appreciate the same from you.
