Outlook pst files and Seagate Backup s/w

I am using a disk backup product from Seagate which will do incremental
backups based on the timestamp per file. I have realized that my .pst files
are not being picked up by this Backup s/w. I just looked closely at a .pst
file and realized that the Modified timestamp is updated every time I run
Outlook, but the Accessed timestamp is not being updated. It appears that
the Seagate s/w is basing the incremental backup on the Accessed timestamp as
opposed to the Modified timestamp.

So, my question is how do you get Outlook to update the Accessed timestamp
on a .pst file?

Outlook does change the Accessed date. Well, actually, Windows changes the
Accessed date. Outlook (and other programs) don't usually worry about that.
The file system does. Is Outlook closed when you attempt the backup?
 
Brian - thanks for responding.

No, Outlook is not running when I run the backup s/w. Something doesn't
sound right... I checked my .pst file yesterday - it showed a Modified date
of 9/22/09 and an Accessed date back in Aug. If the file system is updating
the Accessed date everytime Outlook is run, what's going on?

I don't know, but on every machine I checked, even with Outlook running, the
Accessed date is current.
