Outlook POP3 Mail password

OS: Windows XP
App: Outlook XP

Exchange mail is set fine.
POP3 mail is set fine.

Periodically, POP3 asks for the password.
The "remember password" is checked, yet the user is still
asked. Why? How does one fix it?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
