Outlook, POP3 and Spam

Does any body knows if Outlook downloads even Spam messages from POP3
accounts? if so, does it store them into the Junk folder? I am confused
about setting up the spam blocker , if on the server or the client.

Thanks,
alex.

It's client-side. The messages are downloaded then dealt with...

thanks Vince. let say my email provider has a spam blocker that can be set
up through a webmail interface, would those emails already marked as "spam"
in the server be downloaded through POP3 ? or Outlook would recognize them
and let them stay in the server's webmail "Junk" folder?

if the server moves them to a junk folder, outlook will not download them -
pop3 accounts only download from the server inbox.

For the most part, server side filtering is much better and more efficient
to handle the bulk of the spam.

From your answer and Vince's I infer that it depends on the email provider
and how it handles that situation, if it moves the spam to a real "Bulk"
folder or just mark them as "spam" in the header, am I right?

Thanks,
alex.

Correct. My ISP adds info in the message header to mark a message as
potential SPAM. I could also configure the server to move the messages to
Bulk Mail folder. Personally, I'd rather deal with it client-side since
there's less potential for real mail to get held up as potential spam.

I also prefer to deal with spam client-side, is easier to move good email
from "Bulk" into the "Inbox", or adding senders to the "Safe List"
