Outlook over VPN hangs when previewing emails with inline images

Not sure about this one. Our CEO has just said that if someone sends him an
email with an inline image (as opposed to an attachment) it hangs Outlook
2000 when he accesses his emails over VPN (using BT Broadband). This seems
to be a problem with the preview pane but he doesn't want to lose this
functionality so simply switching the preview pane off isn't an option.

Has anyone else seen this? If so, did you find a solution?

Thanks,

Is he really giving the message enough time to be received? Is he scanning
incoming mail with an antivirus program? If so, he should disable that.

They're not big images - only about 300KB, so they should take no more than a
minute to load, but he says it hangs his machine for a lot longer than that.

It could be Antivirus, I haven't checked that. Thanks, will let you know
the outcome.
