Outlook Out of Office Auto-Reply isn't sent to Outside email acct

I am an internal I.T. support person. I have users who have setup an Out Off
Office Auto-Reply with Out of Office Assistant & the message is sent within
my organization but not to any outside email accounts. They have also tried
this with the Create a Rule feature without success. This holds true for any
of my users, not just a specific one. We are using Outlook 2003.

What is wrong? What is the fix?

Thanks,
Charlie

Exchange Server?

If yes, Exchange (by default) doesn't send automatic messages outside the
organization, be it an OOF or a Rule created message. Ask the Exchange
Admin to enable it or tell the Users that it won't work.

Thanks for the response.
Question:
Where in Exchange do you set that up? How do you do it?

Well, without knowing what version of Exchange, all I can do is google
'exchange enabling out of office reply to the internet' and giving you
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/821899.

If that doesn't fix it you'll probably want to check the Exchange
documentation or ask in one of the Exchange newsgroups.

F.H. Again, thanks for your response. I am using Exchange 2003 Standard.
Earlier today I had located the area under Internet Message
Formats\Defaults\Default Properties\Advanced where the setting was located
but after checking the box for allow Out of office Responses and just-in-case
also checked Allow Automatic Replies but still no go. Looking at the MS
Article you were kind enough to forward to me I verified I had it all set
correctly. Perhaps I need to stop & restart the Exchange services. Will try
that in next day or two when I can take the server (or service) down for a
bit. If you have any other thoughts, please let me know.

Thanks Again,
Charlie

In a multi-site topology, it could theoretically take a little over an hour
to work. Shouldn't require any restart of services. But, I'd probably go
over to microsoft.public.exchange.admin to ask.
