Outlook not recognizing email names

I have outlook 2003
I got a new computer at work and everything was moved from my old computer
to the new one.
but now Outlook isn't consistantly recognizing email names.
Before when I would start to enter a name in the "TO" field of an email,
outlook would pop up the full name and I could just hit enter and it would be
entered.
I expected to have to pull up the name the first time, but it will recognize
the name sometimes and most of the time it doesn't. Even names that it
recognized a couple of times, the next day it doesn't know it any more.
is there a setting that controls this?

Sounds like you're referring to the autocomopletion feature. See if this

thank you Brian, it looks like it may be a problem with the transfer of the
nk2 file to my new computer! Hopefully, that will take care of the problem.

Uh oh... IS already erased my old hard-drive so my nk2 file is gone

But it should build again as you use Outlook. I'm concerned about your
statement that "even names that it recognized a couple of times, the next
day it doesn't know it any more." This is a sign of a corrupt mail profile.

I went to help to find out how to reset this and it told me to search for
*.NK2 - there is no .NK2 file on my computer.
If I go to my control panel, the only files under Mail are .pst.
Any ideas??

If you were using autocompletion, there most certainly is an NK2 file.
Search correctly It is a hidden file.

I went to My Computer and asked it to show hidden files. then searched and
still got no results. Do you know of something else I need to do?

AHA I found out why I couldn't find the NK2 file. Even though I went to MY
Computer and asked to show hidden files, when I went to "Start" and "Search"
if I scroll down below the search box it asks if you want to search the
hidden files, lol.
However, there is another problem. I get three results from the search. One
is my profile name, one is Outlook and one is MS Exchange Settings.
I'm not sure which is the one I want to use.
Also, if I click on any of them to open it I get a warning saying " You are
attempting to open a file of type "office data file" (.nk2). These files are
used by the Operating System and by various programs. Editing or modifying
could damage your system."
Any ideas?? <gulp> lol

Have you enabled viewing hidden files and folders? Open Windows Explorer
and enter

%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook

in the Address bar. Click Go. Do you see it now?

You have not clarified what you are trying to do with these files. All you
said is that you wanted to reset autocompletion, in which case you simply
delete them. You can't open NK2 files natively.
Post more clearly, please.
