Outlook name checking stopped recognizing First then Last name

Since upgrading to from Outlook XP to 2003, automatic (and manual)
name-checking does not recognize the "FirstName Lastname" format in the
address boxes of emails. In other words, if I type an email name like John
Doe, a dialog box states that it does not find John Doe (even though John Doe
is in my Contacts list and Exchange Global Address book). Name checking only
succeeds if I type the last name first. We use Exchange Server.

I have already tried checking all the settings I could think of. Anybody
have any advice on this? Thank you very much in advance.

That is usually an indication that you are using cached mode. Try turning it
off.

Russ, yes, turning off cached mode solved the addressing issue. But don't I
need cached mode in order to keep a synched copy of my Exchange mailbox
folders on my local drive (I use a laptop)? I was not having much success
getting an "offline folder" to keep current without cached mode on. Am I
faced with a choice -- I can have a synched offline folder (cached mode), or
I can have "first name / last name" addressing?

Thanks for your quick (and accurate) reply.

As far as I know, you are faced with a choice. But if I were you, I'd ask in
an Exchange group. This isn't an Outlook issue and there may be some
solutions of which I am not aware.
