I have had to reinstall Office following a major problem, and have
subsequentl lost all information in Outlook - e-mails, contacts etc.
Is there any way of retrieving them? Will System Restore do it?
When you reinstalled Outlook, it created a new PST. Your old one should
still be there. If you're using Windowes 2000 or XP, open Windows Explorer
and in the Address field, type
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and click Go. (Let us know if you're using another Windows version.) You
should see at least two files ending in ".pst". One of them is your
current, empty PST and the other is your old PST containing all your data.
In Outlook, click File>Open>Outlook Data File (or Personal Folders File,
depending on your Office version, which you haven't stated). You should see
the PSTs listed in the browse window. Select the one you're not using and
click OK. Your Outlook bar (or Navigation Pane, depending on version)
should now show two sets of folders. Examine the new set and make sure it
contains your data. You now have to make this PST your delivery location,
but no one can tell you that accurately without knowing your Outlook
version.
